"I have been a member of WEXAS for some years and have used your organisation’s services several times. My wife and I have travelled all over the world and … in providing high quality packages at a reasonable price you certainly get 10 out of 10.
To all your staff who are involved in selecting and training your travel consultants keep up the good work you have a product second to none."

Mr Ian Jones

About WEXAS International Honorary Presidents
WEXAS was founded in 1970 as a travel club for student and expeditionary travel (the name stands for World Expeditionary Association). Since then WEXAS has grown into a multinational travel association with over 35,000 leisure and business travel members in nearly 100 countries.

Today the emphasis is still very much on providing members with information and personal service backed by innovation and technological investment.

Members tell us that they join WEXAS as much for our travel publications and expert advice as for the significant discounts and benefits on scheduled airfares and other travel services - in effect a unique combination of service, information and benefits.

Supporting the environment

WEXAS lends support and financial assistance to Friends of Conservation and also Earthwatch, two environmental charities, in recognition of the concerns of both our Honorary Presidents and our members. We firmly believe that a love of travel must be combined with a positive interest in and responsibility towards the world in which we travel. For further information about:

WEXAS funded expeditions

Since WEXAS was founded in 1970 the Club has played an active part in supporting some of the many expeditions leaving Britain each year. In 2002 WEXAS helped fund two expeditions:

Project Anuran phase III, Belize
The team aims to contribute to the understanding of the ecology and conservation of amphibian populations via intensive assessment of species status and community structure at the neo-tropical site of Las Cuevas - in furtherance of preliminary work conducted during Anuran Phase I and Phase II. The objectives are to: 1) monitor vocalising species status and community structure at a series of breeding ponds, representing a number of sub-habitats; 2) further assess non-vocalising species in areas of riparian habitat identified during Phase I and Phase II; 3) search for further evidence on the status and ecology of a species of unknown status collected during Phase I and Phase II; 4) conduct survey work to compare the diversity of population status of ground dwelling amphibian fauna at four sites in the Las Cuevas area, in order to assess the congruence of amphibian diversity with the presence/absence of four key umbrella species.

Biosearch Nyika: Malawi 2001-2003
This expedition serves to continue the work carried out in the 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2001 expeditions to Malawi. Particular emphasis was placed on accumulating more data on the status and conservation needs of the large mammals, plant and invertebrate diversity and river ecology. The team will use field techniques they have previously built up in cooperation with the Park staff and directly for the Parks management. The Parks authority requested that the expedition provide management data for: 1) the protection of the large mammal populations, 2) the conservation of biodiversity, 3) sustainable development, and 4) the continuation of existing research projects. The team also assessed the effect of burning on invertebrates; provided logistical support for Park scouts; assessed plant, bird and small mammal populations; and investigated the effect of poaching. The team will be working in the remote, trackless, wooded valleys, off the steep escarpments, where few people can venture. This is the most significant area for game and poaching activity and where the most useful work can be done.
The Royal Geographical Society administers the WEXAS awards and encourages geographical research and exploration by granting approval and financial support to expeditions with significant scientific content. Some £45,000 is distributed by the society each year to around 50 expeditions. To be eligible expeditions should have strong links with host countries institutions and the involvement of nationals from the host country in research is vigorously encouraged.
