What is WEXAS?
WEXAS was founded in 1970 as the travel club for student and expeditionary travel (the name stands for World Expeditionary Association). Since then WEXAS has grown into a multinational travel association with over 35,000 leisure and business travel members in nearly 100 countries.

Today the emphasis is still very much on providing members with information and personal service backed by innovation and technological investment. Members tell us that they join WEXAS as much for our travel publications and expert advice as for the significant discounts on scheduled airfares and other travel services.

What does membership entitle me to?
As a member you'll receive complimentary copies of WEXAS publications such as the evocative colour magazine Traveller, plus our range of exclusive travel brochures, regular newsletters and a membership card entitling you a range of pre and post-departure travel benefits and worldwide assistance.

WEXAS computers are linked directly to the reservations systems of thousands of hotels, car hire companies and over 440 scheduled airline databases, as well as to our "members-only" database of wholesale rate prices, including scheduled airfares in economy, business and first class.

How do I know you're legitimate?
WEXAS has been in business for thirty years now and we have always been at the forefront of financial and consumer protection. We are a long-standing bonded member of Association of British Travel Agents and we are licensed and bonded by the Civil Aviation Authority and IATA. We also have ATOL bonding so you know your money is safe with us. Our Honorary Presidents include travellers such as Michael Palin, David Bellamy and Sir Ranulph Fiennes. If you pay by direct debit you will have the additional security of the Direct Debit Guarantee (granted to us by Coutts bank) which means that in the event of any problem you are guaranteed to get your money back.

What standard of service will I get?
We aim to provide you with the following standards of service

  • To answer telephone calls during working hours by a trained member of WEXAS staff, in person, and not with a computerised voice messaging system
  • To answer over 90% of telephone calls each month within an average of 10 seconds*
  • To respond to emails requiring reply within one working day of receipt
  • To return messages within an agreed time limit
  • To acknowledge letters requiring a reply within 48 hours of receipt
  • To provide investigation of any written complaint within one month

Our expert staff will always aim to:-

  • Agree realistic timescales with you for completing itineraries, quotes and other requests
  • Offer ideas to help plan your trip and alternatives if your original request cannot be fulfilled
  • Keep you updated on the progress of your travel booking or other arrangements
  • Give you all the information that you need about your arrangements
  • Ensure that promises made to you are realistic and fulfilled accordingly
  • Deal with any problems directly, quickly and efficiently

Moneyback Service Guarantee
Sometimes things can go wrong which affect the level of service you receive. If you feel that our service has let you down in any way please contact our Customer Services Executive, Edwina Townsend on 020 7589 3315 or email custrel@wexas.com. If your complaint is a result of our service (rather than, say, our travel suppliers') and investigation shows your comments to be justified, we will offer you either an appropriate refund on your membership subscription or a complimentary extension to your membership, depending on the circumstances.

How do I use my membership?
Members’ interests vary and sometimes even the same member may require different things from WEXAS - from savings for their families one day to first class business travel the next, or armchair travel via the pages of Traveller magazine. Whatever your needs, WEXAS is just a phone call away on the ex-directory members’ telephone numbers printed on your membership card.

If you travel with your Membership Card and Directory of Membership Services you'll be able to take advantage of discounts on the spot with hotels, car rental companies and local travel agents worldwide, as well as VIP airport lounges and free worldwide assistance benefits. You can even get discounts on immunisations at BA Travel Clinics before you go, as well as saving money on UK airport car parking and commission free travellers cheques and foreign exchange.

What is the airfare Pricematch Promise?
If there's no discount fare available WEXAS guarantees the lowest official IATA airline airfare.
If no discount fare is available on the airline or timings you require, we'll offer you the lowest IATA airline published fare available. If you find the same official fare at a lower price elsewhere, we'll match the price provided that the comparison is on a like-for-like basis and available.
This offer applies to IATA airline, government-approved fares on scheduled flights out of the UK. It doesn't apply to charter flights, part-charters, discounted or group fares on scheduled flights or to non-IATA airlines such as Easyjet and Ryanair who do not sell through agents.
* Self-service bookings on the internet are not covered by this guarantee, as this is not like-for-like with the personal service afforded to you by your expert WEXAS travel consultant.

The WEXAS Discount Airfare Promise
If you find a discount fare option available from a reputable source (ATOL-bonded and licensed by the CAA) and WEXAS is offering the fare at a higher price on a like-for-like basis, simply tell your consultant the full details before you book. If the discount fare comparison is valid and the fare is available on the day, we will endeavour to match it. We cannot however guarantee to match everyones lowest promotional price or special offers or self-service internet prices. In our experience, most such offers and internet prices turn out not to be available, or are subject to hidden extras anyway.

Discounts to and from the UK
The WEXAS fares in the Travel Planner are based on flights from the UK. We can book flights to and from other cities around the world, but generally there are no discounted fares available. So, apart from Round-the-World fares, please think of WEXAS in terms of flights from the UK.

Why can't I get a quote before I decide whether to join?
The free trial means you have nothing to lose - you're not obliged to pay anything until the free trial period ends. If, during that period, you use our services and decide that WEXAS is not for you, you can simply cancel your membership and you will owe nothing. Using this system means we are able to offer a better service to our members because our Travel Consultants are able to dedicate all their time to them.

What happens if I decide that I want to cancel my WEXAS membership?
If you want to cancel before the special offer period ends you can simply let us know in writing and we will destroy your application form without setting up the direct debit or credit card mandate or banking your cheque - you can keep all the free gifts we sent you with the exception of your membership card which must be returned.

What is the difference between Individual and Family Membership?
Family membership entitles all immediate members of your family at the same address to use WEXAS services to book their own travel. They do not have to be travelling with you in order to use WEXAS services

With an individual membership, you may make travel arrangements for members of your family, but they must travel with you on exactly the same itinerary; members of your family cannot make their own individual travel arrangements. If you wish to take out annual travel insurance, it would not apply to members of your family.

There is no limit as long as it is your partner and/or family members living at the same address.

Yes, as long as that person travelled on exactly the same itinerary as yourself.

No, you are a member the moment you receive your membership number when you can make any travel arrangements immediately.

Why do I need to give you my credit card details now if it’s a free trial period?
It is necessary for us to have your preferred method of payment details on record at the time of you joining WEXAS, in order that we may provide you with a membership card and the full membership pack. We are providing the free trial period and will action payment only at the end of that period. You may cancel your membership during the free trial period in writing, and no membership subscription will be charged.

What is your VIP Airport Lounge Programme?
WEXAS has been able to negotiate with airport lounge owners to provide access to WEXAS members. You will be able to utilise the lounge facilities upon production of your WEXAS membership card. There is a charge for usage (as an example, those at UK airports cost approximately £15.60 per person). We ask our members to complete a VIP Airport Preference Form which we record on your membership record. The airport lounge owners will invoice WEXAS and we, in turn, effect payment through the information contained in your Preference Form. There are some lounges who request payment on entry, e.g. Bangkok.
